The Big Four is an unusually action-oriented Hercule Poirot adventure, combining international conspiracy, espionage, disguises, and a sequence of dangerous encounters. It is better suited to mature teens and adults who enjoy pulpy mystery more than the measured clue-solving of Christie’s country-house novels. The book’s energy, variety, and episodic momentum are clear strengths, and Poirot’s presence provides continuity. Its mild limitation is structural: the loosely connected episodes can feel less unified than Christie’s tighter puzzles. Readers should also expect heightened melodrama rather than strict realism.
