Superworm celebrates helpfulness, friendship, and resourcefulness through a highly rhythmic adventure featuring an unusually versatile hero. The repeating verse makes it excellent for group read-alouds, while the illustrations provide visual jokes and plenty to examine after the first reading. Preschool and early-primary children will enjoy its energetic pace and reassuring message that every creature has value. The story’s strongest quality is its combination of catchy language and communal problem-solving. A mild limitation is that the plot can feel episodic, with the rhyme and pictures carrying as much appeal as the narrative progression.
