Brawl of the Wild combines Dav Pilkey’s trademark comic violence and absurdity with themes of identity, loyalty, and judging others fairly. Its screenplay-like pages, simple sentences, expressive drawings, and interactive devices help engage newly independent and reluctant readers, while the rapid pacing sustains attention. The book also gives the series’ heroes opportunities to cooperate and show vulnerability beneath the jokes. It will appeal most to children already comfortable with the Dog Man world. A mild limitation is that the action is intentionally chaotic, and its emotional turns may feel abrupt to unfamiliar readers.
