This lively picture book turns a witch’s journey into a warm lesson about generosity, cooperation, and friendship. As the broom fills with unexpected passengers, Julia Donaldson builds suspense through repetition and rhyme, creating an excellent read-aloud for preschool and early-primary children. Axel Scheffler’s illustrations make each character distinctive and reward close looking, especially during the energetic rescue sequences. The story’s clear structure supports participation and prediction. One mild limitation is that its repeated refrain and tightly patterned plot may feel less fresh to children who already know Donaldson’s other books.
